Inventor and Historian Maurice Bligh will journey aboard the Aranui 5 on voyage 17, sailing Nov. 7, 2017, and recount the travels of his great-great-great-grandfather, Vice-Admiral William Bligh of the historically renowned HMS Bounty.
For more than 45 years, Maurice Bligh has researched his legendary ancestor and has set out to dispel the misinformation and inaccurate portrayal of William Bligh as depicted by several novels and two Mutiny on the Bounty movies. Maurice reveals that William Bligh, widely known as “Captain Bligh,” was a British National Hero who was an integral part in navigation through the Pacific Ocean and exploration in Tahiti.
While onboard the Aranui 5, Maurice Bligh will offer four illustrated lectures titled “Secrets of the Bounty” where passengers will have the opportunity to learn about William Bligh’s naval career, which continued well past the mutiny on the Bounty, in addition to other British expeditions during the 1700s. Maurice will also share personal experiences from his visits to the region, including his 1970 voyage that closely followed the route of the Bounty and sailed 36,000 nautical miles.
